These scrambles provide opportunities for FLL teams to practice before the big final competition in November and December.  The schools that participated were Martin City, Butcher-Greene and Belvidere.  There was really no win or loss - it was all about learning and getting feedback from judges.

Women In Design

Students from GHS attended the Women in Design--Kansas City Day of Shadowing. WiD--KC is a part of the American Institute of Architects Kansas City organization. Twenty of the high school’s female students went to three separate engineering firms in the area.  They had a chance to shadow women engineers there and experience some hands on learning while networking with role models in the field.  The girls were able to take tours around the office and view project renderings, documents that outlined project costs and important specifics. They even had a chance to work together on a little design of their own. Here are photos from HMN Architects of the event.  To learn more about Women In Design, please visit http://www.widkc.org/

Grandview C-4 Middle School Students Prepare to Fill the Engineering Gap through Grandview Ignite Event

Monday, October 20th, Grandview Middle School eighth graders were shown the tricks and the trades of engineering through Grandview Ignite.  The event is designed to get students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.  Honeywell hosted Grandview Ignite. Twenty engineers with the company worked  hands on with students to get them excited about STEM careers.

GMS is taking proactive steps to get their students interested in STEM careers by partnering with Honeywell and Prep-KC for the special Engineering Day.

Jobs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) will outpace non-STEM jobs significantly over the next 10 years according to the Commerce Department, yet the U.S. is failing to produce enough skilled STEM workers. If schools don't take immediate action, we will begin to see a dramatic decline in innovation and crucial research and development.

The event consisted of small groups of students rotating table to table, participating in hands-on demonstrations.  Martin City eighth graders will participate in the same event Thursday, December 11th from 8:30am-11:30am.

1st Place for the GHS Blue & Gold Brigade at Missouri Day Marching Festival

The Grandview High School Blue & Gold Brigade marching band took first place among all class 4A bands for the fifth year in a row at the Missouri Day Marching Festival in Trenton, Mo., Oct. 18.

The band and color guard received first place (highest point total) in Music, Marchi

The Blue & Gold Brigade drum line also place third in its class in the indoor competition.

The 110-member Grandview marching band and color guard is unique in that it is a completely volunteer activity - all practice time is mornings and evenings outside-of-school time - and that the band includes eighth-graders (this year 21).

Missouri Day was the last competition of the season for the Blue & Gold Brigade which place second in competitions at Missouri Western University (St. Joseph), Lee’s Summit North and Carrollton, Mo. earlier in the year. The Grandview C-4 director of bands is Danny Watring.

The firemen put on their gear in front of the children.  They role modeled how they would sound and look in a fire as they searched for people in the burning home.  Families were given the opportunity to go inside the ambulance.  All of the children received fire fighter hats and a bag of treats about fire prevention month.

College Night

The road to college is getting closer for Grandview High School seniors.  Many are already prepping for what’s to come with the help of the high school’s College Night.  The informational event took place Monday evening in the GHS library.  Dozens of seniors came out with their parents to learn about the college application process.  That process may include things like ACT dates, financial aid, scholarships, A+, and more. The school’s counselors and coordinators broke the information down for parents and students with hopes to make that road to college a little smoother.

Trick or Treat so Kids Can Eat

The trick or treating got to an early start for theatre students at Grandview High School.  Several students headed out to nearby neighborhoods Tuesday night to going door to door, not to collect candy but canned goods.  It’s an effort for the Tot’s Eat community service project. GHS students JP Haley, Hope Lee, and Jessie Fuller collected a couple of bags of canned goods and non-perishable items that will be delivered to the Grandview Assistance Program.

“The students have a lot of fun dressing up and 'trick or treating,' and it’s a great way for them to make a difference in their own community.” said Rachel Taylor, Grandview High School’s Theatre Director.

This is an initiative theatre students (Thespians) across the United States are teaming up on to fight hunger in their communities.

College Application Fair Held at GHS

The college application process can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time.  The College Application Fair at Grandview High School is there to give students that extra support they might need to get those apps completed.  The fair was held in the high school's library.  Eleven schools were represented this year.  Students who attended not only got help but had their application fees waived and their transcripts sent. One-hundred and ninety-two seniors were able to complete at least one college application with many applying for two or three colleges.

3rd Annual Bobcat Pride Day

This was the 3rd Annual Bobcat PRIDE Day for Belvidere Elementary.A day for students, parents, staff, and community to team together on projects to "beautify" the school and school grounds. This year they had around 25 people made up of students, parents, and staff meet at the school working on various projects such as: weeding, putting mulch in the flower beds, picking up trash around the school grounds, painting picnic tables and a cart for the backpack snack program, and painting a new kickball diamond on the lower playground.

Save the Date - 6th Annual Trivia Night

The sixth annual Trivia Night will be on Thursday, November 13 at GHS.  This will be a great night to show off all those useless facts you know and compete in a friendly environment and just have a great time.  Trivia Night is a unique event that brings our community together. The event is put on by the Grandview Education Foundation.  Last year it raised almost $6000 through sponsorships, teams, and donors. The money raised went toward student programs, scholarships and staff grants.

This year’s goal is to have 50 tables. You can start lining up your team

of eight from your businesses, community organization, city government, family, friends, or GC-4 school or department.  Clever team names, “uniforms”, and table decorations are encouraged and rewarded!  There will be items raffled, door prizes, and a few items to bid on during our live auction.

Click here to download the form below to sign up as a sponsor, teamor donor. All are greatly appreciated! Sponsors and donors are recognized in a pre-show PowerPoint presentation and, along with teams, in the printed program.
