Congratulations to the 2015-2016 GHS Homecoming King and Queen

GHS senior Alyssa Williams was nominated as Homecoming Queen Friday night. Alyssa is the daughter of Nicole Williams and Daniel McGonigal. Alyssa is a fourth year captain of the tennis team. She went undefeated in conference play three years in a row. She is also a member of FCA and HOSA. Alyssa plans to attend college to major in Child Psychology and hopes to one day become a clinical psychologist.

Senior Arlonn Tolson was announced Homecoming King. He is the son of Angea Guy. Arlonn is captain of the varsity football team and plans to play baseball for GHS this spring. Outside of school, Arlonn is a percussionist for his church. After high school, Arlonn plans on attending college to major in engineering mechanics.

Parents as Teachers Meet Up at the Fire Station

GC-4’s Parents as Teachers program held a successful outreach event with some help from ‘Sparky’ the fire dog Wednesday.  “Meet Me at the Fire Station,” brought out dozens of parents with little ones to the Grandview fire station on 14th Street.  Tiny tots got to take pictures with ‘Sparky,’ learn about the fire trucks and the equipment. They also had a little talk with firefighters about safety.  It was an unforgettable experience for parents and their children.

Belvidere Elementary Gets Creative with Family Literacy Night

Belvidere’s Family Literacy night wasn’t just about getting information on reading; it was about experiencing the magic reading creates.  The theme of the event was “Camp-Read-A-Lot.”  The gymnasium was covered with tents and activities that brought books to life.  There were stations of arts and crafts, that weren’t just fun but they had purpose. The activities helped with recognition, recall, building vocabulary and more.  Parents were encouraged to sit down and read to their kids, right there in the gym. Some students even sat inside tents, curled up with a flashlight and a good book.  “Camp-Read-A-Lot” was fun-filled and captured the importance of learning about literacy.

This Saturday, October 10th, Belvidere will be hosting a community walk. It starts at the school at 10am.

GHS Homecoming Game and Parade this Friday

The countdown to Grandview High School’s homecoming continues!  The homecoming parade is this Friday, October 9th at 1:15pm.  The parade will start at 10th and Main Street and continue down High Grove Road, ending at GHS.  An assembly at GHS will immediately follow the parade.  Friday night, it’s game time!  The Bulldogs will face the Platte County Pirates at 7pm.  The crowning of the Homecoming king and queen will take place during half-time.  Students and staff at GHS will be getting in the Bulldog spirit all week long, dressing up each day of the week for Spirit Week.  Here’s a list of themes:

State Line Walmart Donates School Supplies to GC-4

The State Line Walmart delivered some exciting news to the Grandview C-4 school district in the form of school supplies.  Employees selected our district to be the recipients of several pallets of schools supplies.  At the end of the 'back to school' season it usually selects a local organization to donate what's left to. GC-4 is proud to be on the receiving end of Walmart’s generosity.  Thank you State Line Walmart for supporting our district!

GHS Flag Pole, Place of Prayer for Fellowship of Christian Athletes

Grandview High School’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) joined high schools across the country Wednesday morning for a national day of prayer at the school's flag pole.  The event See You at the Flag Pole brought out local pastors and members of Grandview’s faith-based community to pray with students. The program also consisted of praise and worship and personal testimonials.  This is one of two spiritual events celebrated by FCA at high schools and communities nationwide.  The next one, Fields of Faith, is October 18^th 7:00pm-8:00pm, at the GHS football field.   

Grandview Police Creates a “Move Toward the Badge” Initiative to Strengthen Community Relationship

The Grandview Police Department partnered with the Grandview School District to rollout the premier of a powerful recruitment video that shares personal stories of Grandview officers. The event brought high school students and officers together during a Pizza with Police lunch hour Friday.

“Move Toward the Badge” is a concept aimed to encourage trusting relationships between the community and local law enforcement.  This event is just one of the police department’s many community engagement programs that is proactive in forming positive relationships with the youth of the Grandview community. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and speak with officers one-on-one.

“We strive to make positive connections with the youth; we see this as a long-term investment both in their future and our City’s future. We hope the video resonates with our local students. The City of Grandview is blessed with a diverse community. It would be great if we could develop some “home-grown” police officers, students that we have had contact with in grade school, middle school, high school and beyond. ,” said Charles Iseman, Grandview Police Chief.
