GC-4 Superintendent Search Update

Results of the superintendent search focus groups and survey are posted on the home page of the district website, www.grandview.c4.net.  This information will be used to develop interview questions for superintendent candidates.

The Board of Education anticipates conducting interviews during the second and third weeks of January.  Representatives from the administration, certified and classified staffs, students, parents and community will participate in the interview process.  The Board hopes to make a final decision by the end of January or first part of February.

GMS Robotics Team Head to Regionals

Congratulations to Grandview Middle School teacher Jason Reese and GMS First Lego League Robotics Team for advancing to the Championship at Union Station in January. This is the first time a Grandview school has qualified for the Kansas City regional competition in Lego League robotics!

The GMS Techno Dogs robotics team competed at the local qualifying tournament.    During the competition the team presented a research project, completed a team building activity, and discussed the design of their robot and game strategy with judges.  In the afternoon the team got three attempts to score as many points as possible on the robot playing field. The team’s high score was 261 points, which was good enough for 14th place.  However, they were selected by the judges as having the most creative solution to the trash related project they worked on.  This award, plus finishing in the top half of robot game scores, qualified them for the Kansas City Regional Competition at Union Station January 16th!

Good luck to GMS Techno Dogs!

Honeywell and Prep KC Event Ignite Excitement in Science and Technology Careers

Grandview Ignite makes learning about science, engineering, technology and math fun! Grandview C-4 middle school students had the opportunity to learn about STEM careers from Honeywell engineers.  More than a dozen Honeywell volunteers worked with small groups of students through hands-on demonstrations. The groups were divided by gender and rotated table to table partaking in a wide range of activities that explored civil, mechanical and computer science themed activities.  The event is aimed to get students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) careers.

This was the second year for the annual event, which is sponsored by Prep KC.

Community Feedback Encouraged in GC-4 Superintendent Search Process

Community and staff input is highly valuable to finding Grandview C-4’s next superintendent. GC-4’s Board of Education would like to make sure the community has a say during the process.

Consultants from the superintendent search firm McPherson & Jacobson will conduct a community focus group on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the GHS Library – 2300 High Grove Rd.

The feedback from the focus groups will be used to help BOE members identify characteristics the community would like to see in our district’s next superintendent. The information will be used by the search firm to look at candidates who are a good fit for the district.  Your input will also be used to form interview questions.

Several community members may also be selected to participate in interview panels. If you’re interested, you can submit your name during the community input focus group November 10.

College Application Fair Gives Seniors a Chance to Apply Free of Charge

Signing up for college is fun and exciting but it can be a daunting and costly task.  Grandview High School made it easier for students to navigate through the process with a College Application Fair.  Fourteen area colleges met all GHS seniors in the library to tackle the process of applying for college free of charge.  All application fees were waived and students got their questions answered by college recruiters in a one-on-one setting. It’s a one of a kind event that helped students prepare for what’s next down the road to college.  Thank you to Prep-KC for sponsoring such a great event!
