Grandview Boys Track and Field Win 6th Straight State Title

Grandview boys clinched another state title at the 2016 Missouri State Track and Field Championship in Jefferson City, Mo. Saturday.  The boys had at least three state individual titles and several medalist that placed in the top eight.  Several meet highlights include,  Caulin Graves winning the 100 meter and 200 meter dash, Maliek Kendall won the 110 meter hurdles and the boys 4x100 meter and 4x200 meter relays also placed in the top eight.

The girls team placed 8th overall .  Highlights on the girls side include Irea Brown placing 5th in the 100 meter dash, Syndee Mitchell placed 3rd in the 400 meter dash and also finished in the top eight in the 200 meter dash.

GHS Boys Track and Field Win Districts

Congratulations to the Grandview High School Boys Track and Field team who won Districts during the weekend. The meet was hosted by GHS.

Meet highlights include the Maliek Kendall winning the 110 meter hurdles and placing 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles.  Teammate D’monte’ Blanks placed 4th in the 100 meter hurdles and 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles. Caulin Graves won the 100 meter  and 200 meter dash with Verrell Garrett placing 4th in the 200m to move on to Sectionals.

Cirr Davis won the Triple Jump and placed 3rd in the Long Jump.  Adam Blackstock placed 4th in the 400 meter dash and Kentwan Blackstock placed 4th in the High Jump. Both athletes will also move on to Sectionals.

The 4x100 meter relay also took 1st place.  It consisted of Garret, Graves, Kendall and Reginald James.  The 4x200 meter relay team took 2nd. That team included Tre' Manning, Adam Blackstock, Kastavas Jackson and James. The 4x400 meter relay also placed 2nd with a team of Manning, Blackstock, Kendall and Blanks.

The GHS Girls Track and Field team also has quite a few moving on to the Sectional meet this weekend at Staley High School.

Qualifiers include:
• Irea Brown in the 100 meter dash and Long Jump
• Sydnee Mitchell in the 200 meter dash and 400 meter dash
        (placed 1st in the 400 meter)
• Eriss Mintz in High Jump
• 4x100  Lana Dorsey, Irea Brown, Timolin Dooley and Sydnee Mitchell
• 4x200  Lana Dorsey, Timolin Dooley, Breonne Maltbia, Marissa Hood
• 4x400 Relays, Timolin Dooley, Marissa Hood, Breonne Maltbia and Sydnee Mitchell

GHS Students Nominates School Resource Officer as Kindest Kansas Citian

Grandview High School student Marlowe Henderson wrote an essay that placed in the top 20 in the Kindest Kansas Citian Essay Contest out of 5000 entries.  He is one of two students that placed.  Junior Anthony Grimmett wrote about his neighbor and made top three.  

Henderson however wrote about Grandview’s own Officer Doug Thacker.  Thacker is a School Resource Officer in our district. Thacker was honored as a “Kindest Kansas Citian” at a banquet last week.  To read Henderson’s essay, click here.

GHS Senior Reunites with Recipient of His Blood Donation

A Grandview High School Senior had the chance to learn a valuable lesson of service.  Senior Maliek Kendall donated blood and had the rare opportunity to meet the recipient. The reunion will took place at the Community Blood Center in downtown Kansas City, MO. during a press conference.

Kendall is one of 28 donors that helped save the recipient's life with their blood donation.  Due to the impact of their generosity, the recipient wanted to reunite and thank each donor personally.

During the Blood Donor-Blood Recipient Reunion the recipient will share his touching story of survival. The story was featured on several newscast.  Here’s a link to the story.
