GHS Engineering Students Selected to Appear with their Projects on KC Live

Engineering Design and Development students Quamaine Yarbough and Reggie Collier  were selected by KC STEM Alliance to appear with their senior engineering project on the KSHB morning show Monday.

Their project, called the “DormWasher” is made to simplify cleaning dishes for college students who don’t have a sink in their dorm room.  It will do dishes like a regular dishwasher only it will not need a water source or drain and will be small enough to fit on a table or counter.

The KC STEM Alliance is working to raise interest within the community about the full Senior Showcase at Union Station.  It’s where Project Lead the Way senior design classes bring their projects to Union Station to be viewed by people who are looking for future engineering students and interns.

Butcher-Greene Students Get Hands On Lesson in Gardening

Fifth graders at Butcher Greene got their hands dirty for a good cause. Students built six raised garden beds.  Each one of the gardens is designated for each of the elementary school grade levels.  Students from every grade level were then able to plant in their gardens.  Students are planning for a May harvest. Their effort was in partnership with Community Gardens.

The planting didn’t stop there; fourth graders at the school and parent volunteers partnered with Giving Grove and planted an orchard.  It includes 11 fruit trees, raspberry bushes and an insect garden.
